What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website keeps in your browser. Browser storage (local storage and session storage) does a similar job without being sent to the website with every request. This page covers both, for samrisk.co.uk and for the SAMRISK app at app.samrisk.co.uk. The law that applies is the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and UK GDPR.
How we use them
- Nothing optional until you choose. On your first visit a banner asks. Until you answer, only strictly necessary storage is used.
- Google Tag Manager loads only after you allow analytics or marketing. Before that, Google's script is not requested at all. When it loads, Google Consent Mode carries your exact choice, with everything denied by default.
- Your choice is kept for 12 months, with its date. We ask again after that, or sooner if what we set changes.
- Saying no is as easy as saying yes. Reject all sits beside Accept all, with the same weight, and you can choose each kind separately.

When analytics or marketing is on, Google receives your IP address and the pages you view, and may process them in the United States. See Google's privacy policy.
Other requests the site makes
The site's fonts load from Google Fonts, and aerial imagery on some pages comes from an imagery service. Your browser asks them for the files directly, so they see your IP address, as with any website. They set no cookies for us. Our data processing agreement names these services.

The app asks for your cookie choice with its own banner. It sets analytics only if you allow it.
Changing your choice
- On samrisk.co.uk, choose Cookie settings in the footer of any page. You can switch analytics and marketing on or off and save. If you switch off something that has already loaded, the page reloads so it stops.
- You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser's settings, which brings the banner back.
- Most browsers let you block cookies altogether. If you block necessary storage, the site will ask for your choice on every visit, and the app cannot keep you signed in.
